天道

Mr Chat is still adhering to and practicing taoism, 天道 which we got acquinted while in Taiwan about 20 years ago. Their guidelines are kind of strict ...... At least it does not mandate us to live like a monk, 僧, but more to practice a modest life style.

As a concept, Taoist do not hold the position of good against evil; rather they see the interdependence of all dualities. So when one labels something as a good, one automatically creates evil. Even in goodness, there are traces of evil in it.

For more than two thousand years, Taoism has evolved in close interaction with the other major traditions of China--Confucianism, Buddhism, ethnic creeds, and popular religion--and adapted many of their features. To the present day, Taoism consists of a multiplicity of beliefs and practices.

For me, I tend to favour a combination of taoism and buddhism.

I always advocate a simple life and taking the middle path. Enjoying living without being extravagant. Earning a living without having a rat race.
Lately, the effect of US sub-prime financial crisis creates such a devastation that makes me re-think about living and consequence's. Many has lost direction but I will strongly recommend them to go back to basic.
Live a simple life and believe in God/Religion.
Back to basic.

Police reputation - damage control required

Just want to high-light 2 news report about our police forces. I can only hope that they take a concerted effort to repair their image. The public still have a strong perception that our police force is corrupted and not doing their role as the protector of the public.

From NST 1st news:
Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Bakri Zinin said: "We accept and investigate all reports, what more from the disadvantaged. We need to take special care of them."
He brushed aside assertions that police were not helpful to blind victims. read more

NST 2nd news:
Lam claimed that the investigating officer took down a confession from the driver, who even showed the officer where he sold the cargo. But no arrests were made.

Lam said he had gone to meet the investigating officer seven times in January since lodging his report, and raised it with the officer's superiors in Bukit Aman three times in February, but to no avail. read more

Reduce crime

Photo taken from TheStar (without permission).

This is what we want to hear from the new administration. Keep it up.

News from Thestar:
“The order is out for all police stations in the four states and the Federal Territory to go on the offensive and to screen as many people as possible. We have identified areas where the crime rate is high or where there are many complaints of criminal activities.

However with the current bad perception about our police force, the police themselves need to make sure that no corrupt practice surfaces during this crackdown. The temptation of a few extra duit kopi is hard to resist.
So help them God.

Engineer

No wonder we have difficulties trying to get engineer for KK office. This article from Star tell the story. here
"Malaysia is facing a shortage of engineers, which will impede the country’s development, said Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) president Prof Datuk Chuah Hean Teik.

He said there was a need to train more engineers before the situation became critical, adding that the country would need about 200,000 engineers by 2020.

Currently, there are only 60,000 engineers in the country, Prof Chuah said.
"

Most business are going through a tough time now. We are also suffering but my bosses think we must have confidence in Sabah market and continue our investment to be prepared for the growth in this specialist business here. It's not easy to prepare and train engineers for the repair and refurbishment business.
Hopefully, we could grab a few from the current batch for internship. Looks like we got to pay them more just for training. hah ha

我 来 自 新 村

Last nite, make myself comfortable to watch the new documentary on Astro AEC about the creation of new villages titled "我 来 自 新 村" .
This informative documentary really beneficial to me and those younger generation as we live in new villages but never really ponder about it. Most of our earlier life is occupied by struggle to make a living.
Now that most new villager has escape from extreme poverty, we could slow down a bit and reflect back on what our forefather has gone thru.
Will recommend more people to watch this on AEC, every sunday 9pm

Scratching back

Maybe he just want to remind them of history. Me read this as him scratching their back and now he expect reciprocal action.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak tried to sell his 1Malaysia government style to Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM), in business terms.
“This government of today has always implemented business-friendly policies for the good of the nation. It's a symbiotic relationship; when businesses thrive, the government collects more revenues in taxes that can be used to provide for services to the people.

“As such, I will hold true to the government policy of pro-business and this is my pledge as Prime Minister to all Malaysians: 1 Malaysia,” said Najib, to loud applause.

In the same breath, Najib then asked the ethnic Chinese business community to show their appreciation to the government for its “pro-business” policies, in an apparent reference to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's words in an interview with Mingguan Malaysia last week, after the Barisan Nasional suffered another defeat in the Bukit Gantang and Bukit Selambau by-elections.

“But this brings me to question: if the government has always demonstrated its pro-business policies, should not the business community return the favour?” Najib asked, seemingly rhetorically.

60 years of New Village

Astro AEC is going down the memory lane, a documentary trip back to the early days of formation of the New Village by the british. This would be very interesting indeed as I was not even born then. The 1st episode will be on 19th April 2009.
However, growing up in a new village is very interesting but not everything we cherished. When I was young, there is no street light. No road only harden earth path. The only time we are allowed to wander out at night is during the temple festival, whole week right after mid-autumn festival. To go home, we walk in the dark guided by moonlight.

History and politic ........

Very similar to what describe by Kadayan Journel here
"Day turns dark as soon as sun sets in kampung, in houses is even darker. What else can they do besides making babies? I would have thought life in kampung at this era should be more exciting than hunderd years ago. Hopefully new inspiring politicians will see to this to do the uplifting."

Back to school?

Our new Education minister tell us to go back to school if we don't understand what he said in The Utusan interview. Malaysian insider report as follow:

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today lashed out at the Chinese vernacular press for “twisting” his words and portraying him in a bad light.

He denied calling the Chinese ungrateful. The DPM claimed what he had said was that the Chinese were unappreciative.

The deputy prime minister denied he had used the word “ungrateful” to describe the community in the wake of the ruling party’s defeat in the Bukit Gantang by-election in an interview published on Sunday in Mingguan Malaysia.

“If they don’t know Malay, we can send them to school,” said Muhyiddin, who is also the new education minister.

Too bad for me, my primary school classroom has been converted to kindergarden. Gotta start from kindies .... oh

Lost in translation

It is an old and tired formula of Malaysian politicians, both from Barisan Nasional (BN) and the opposition, to say different things to different audiences. here and here

sepatutnya mereka membalas budi
they should be grateful
感恩 = be grateful
感恩戴德 = be deeply grateful; be overwhelmed with gratitude

Check the translation at nciku. here

From Jeffooi

Read what Mr Ti's thinking.
One Malaysia must not be a mere political propaganda and Malaysians must not be allowed to feel cheated again.

1Malaysia puff puff

The 1Malaysia concept is very quickly going up in smoke. Najib will be facing serious problem implementing it if his team didn't play ball.

Our TPM cum Education minister during an interview with utusan reveals a frustration with the increasingly ineffective tactic of buying voter sympathies by throwing money at Chinese and Tamil schools. When money can't buy love there is much pouting and sulking.
From Malaysian Insider,
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin continues to draw criticism over his recent comments that Chinese voters were ungrateful for not voting for BN even though the government had assisted the community, with the latest rebukes coming from Umno’s partners in the Barisan Nasional (BN) . Read here

And this is what he pledge earlier:
Pledging to help Datuk Seri Najib Razak achieve his vision of 1Malaysia, the No. 2 man in the government, who officially took office yesterday, said everyone should support the prime minister for a stronger and united nation. read

How to be strong and united?
Well I guess everybody will be send to a bootcamp for a 1Malaysia indoctrination seminar soon.

Aiyoyo Samy

This old ginger must have second though about the Najib's cabinet. On the day of swearing-in at Istana Negara, where he is a witness, he was reported to be happy with the line-up.
Then suddenly, news filtered out that the indians are not been given fair treatment. Read what is written by bigdog.
Maybe he is jealous because MCA got more than they demanded.
How about Sarawakian?

When will all this race politics ends?
All that we need is fair treatment for all Malaysian.
Affirmative action is to help those handicapped or really poor people.

Job oh job

Job is so scarce these days that we most go all out to protect it. Must learn from these 3 smart asses,Jelapang assemblyman Hee Yit Foong, Behrang assemblyman Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi and Changkat Jering assemblyman Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu. Fight for your job even until the federal court.
"The three independent Perak state assemblymen who quit their parties will keep their seats after the Federal Court ruled that the Election Commission had the right to decide whether state seats are vacant." read more

Don't follow this jobless guy, Ismail. No job no reputation.
"Now that the Bukit Gantang parliamentary by-election is over, Ismail Saffian will turn his attention back to his family and friends. He will also need to find a new job." read more

This lucky guy from Penang that got a plump job today. Congratulation.
Koh Tsu Koon - For Unity and Performance, what kind of job description? makes me wonder!!!!

Lastly a nice hug to our new minister for Housing and Local Goverment, Kong Cho Ha. Congratulation for the promotion to full minister.

1Malaysia 8 Values

BN new leadership is coming out with their brand new concept of 8 values. PM Najib already post the initial idea in his 1malaysia blog.

"Since I took office as Prime Minister, I found it very encouraging that public acceptance of the 1Malaysia concept has been warm and enthusiastic. Another key feature in ensuring our success is the values that we must instill to complement our efforts.
I have chosen a set of eight values that I believe are important to us all."

However good his intention, most of us would remain skeptical. How they going to rebrand ketuanan melayu? The value at the bottom of the diagram is Meritocracy. As a Malaysian, we has been waiting for this for a long time. Could he push it forward?
The jury is still out there.

However MCA is out of touch and still playing with race issue. Read this

MCA barking at wrong tree

Sometimes politician makes me wonder? They seem to be very capable and 'thick skin" to squeeze more benefits for themselves before even trying to address our problems. Their reason is always that we need to give them position to solve problems. My goodness, MCA has been in the cabinet since merdeka. their portfolio has been weaken over the time and now mostly in junior ministries. What a joke asking for a Deputy PM post!!!

From Star: Better voice in government with a Chinese Deputy PM, says Wee

MCA, please wake up. This is not the change that we look forward to.
