In the news for wrong reason

This is not a good reason to be in the news especially international main media like CNN which will be read by so many people that all the money spend by our tourism ministry will likely go down the drain.

(CNN) -- Authorities in Malaysia have seized more than 20,000 Bibles in recent months because they refer to God as "Allah," Christian leaders said Thursday.

I would be proud if we are featured for some accomplishment rather than this kind of extreme religious action. We will never understand why our authorities take such drastic action. Don't they realise that language is just an expression. Faith is from the heart

More about wages

all 3 articles are from the star online.
make your own judgement about the situation and our government priority.

Belaga: The oil palm estates offer wages of between RM15 and RM20 per day for workers. read here

PETALING JAYA: The Government has decided to set RM3,000 as the poverty line for the urban poor based on feedback from people living in major urban areas such as Kuala Lumpur. read here

PETALING JAYA: Syed Shahir said MTUC would continue to push the Government to introduce a minimum wage of RM900 for private sector workers in the country.

Navaratnam said that the fastest way to raise income without going through the pangs of economic transformation was by introducing a minimum wage.
He said a minimum wage would also help fight poverty and make a breakthrough in the present mid-income trap that it faces.
“The minimum wage can be based on the poverty threshold of RM700 a month,” he suggested. read here

Low wages

it looks like reality bites the natives living near Bakun dam. 1st their land got taken and they are moved to "modern" long houses. Do they need to pay for water and electricity?
Then they are offered peanuts pay by the logger. After that the palm oil estate operator offer much lower pay. Now they cannot find reasonable paid jobs from nearby and have to migrate to the city for jobs.
Is this what they want? or .....

from thestar
BELAGA: Natives at the Bakun Dam area near here are still finding it difficult to find jobs despite the opening up of more than 50,000ha of oil palm estates.
They are losing out to Indonesian workers who are willing to accept very low wages instead.
Native men are going to towns like Bintulu, Miri and Kuching to look for jobs, leaving their old, women and children behind.

Sharing the pain

Our hearts goes out to the families of those children. We share your pain too.

An 11-year-old pupil drowned and two others are still missing after a bridge they were crossing collapsed on Monday night.

Also from thestar
Questions are being asked as to how the newly-constructed suspension bridge across Sungai Kampar gave way.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who visited the site of the tragedy yesterday, ordered the setting up of a committee to investigate the incident and submit a report to him.

Initial report from the tragedy site mentioned about failed cable post etc etc etc. We hope more information will be make available to prevent another accident like this.

Credit card

Hopefully the banks be helpful in absorbing the newly proposed government service tax.
read thestar:
Banks are likely to absorb the RM50 service tax on credit cards, considering that they already provide cardholders with rebates worth more than this

If not I gotta get ready to cut and cancel those cards next year. This 1Malaysia government doesn't seem to understand that credit card in many ways has becomes a necessity. It allows us to travel light and less cash in the pocket. Many purchases using credit card has added protection too.

what our government need to do is to educate the users on financial prudence and not acting like a leech to add onto the suffering of those already carrying the debts.

the truth is that nobody likes to have credit card debts as the interest rates is as much as those charged by Ah-long. Most of them have no options.

Priority

Don't know what those people was thinking. The rakyat in Sabah has blackout so often that they lost count of it. It's becoming a norm for rich people to install gen-set in their bungalow. And what we see is more and more decorative lighting installed along this coastal highway in KK.

Don't know why????

Evil

A good friend of mine remind me to make correction to my previous posting. He point me to another saying:

Evil triumph when good men do nothing.

The best we can do is NFA. Let the sun set ...... just enjoy the scene.

Sun shade

Shirley under the palm tree at the buddhist temple up the Sandakan hill. It happen to be the 1st day of the 9th lunar month

Where to pray?

Nowaday, it is nearly impossible to get permission to build temple at new township or housing estate resulting in "illegal" places of worship being set-up above shoplot or at corner of any public space. Having a place to pray at "haphazard" public place is not conducive and at times annoying to the public. But what are the options? Try getting local authorities approval for a place of worship for non-muslim is nearly impossible. Assembly in enclosed space like those above shoplot is more orderly but .... actually without proper planning, this is dangerous in case or fire or emergencies.

Hopefully our PM Najib could help with his 1Malaysia plan to resolve this lack of places for spiritual worship in the major cities. We just hope that the cowhead incident in Shah Alam would just be a reminder for all to resolve this and not the tipping point.

from thestar
Najib stressed that while the rights of the Malays would be protected, what was entitled for the Chinese, Indians and other races would be given to them as well.
This should not be limited to economics right, spiritual rights should be considered too.

also from thestar
Malaysia Indian Youth Council Putra secretary-general Gunaretinam Rajan, who claimed to represent the 48 Hindu families in the area, asked why the residents could not live in peace with each other.

Several of the residents were visibly unhappy with his remark and charged at him, but other residents and enforcement officers stopped them.

Politic and layman

If I'm not wrong, it is RPK that always mentioned that we do not need to be politician or joining political party to participate in our country's political process.
We could just be a political activist.

For a layman like me, I despise those politician wayang kulit show. But we couldn't escape from it as their action will somehow affect our life, our future.

Without realising it, most of us are actually part of the political activist movement by discussing politics while having our mug of beer. hip hip hurray

Race relation

Being confused, pusing and pening by the race relation situation. Me always think that being fair to all is the best policy but ........

read thestar ;
Johor delegate Samsol Bari Jamali meanwhile called on Umno to stem the erosion of support from the Malays to the party.
He said Umno’s spirit of compromise and fairness for all races had created dissatisfaction among the Malays.

My question is why this dissatisfaction in the 1st place?????
Why none of them question the wealth of the Dr Gigi or the Taibs?????

Mid Autumn Festival

During the weekend, we celebrated mid autumn festival. Mooncake is the center of attention.
However, the main comment out of Hongkong is how much this cake was wasted or discarted. It's not cheap but because so many received it as gift, so they consider is as worthless.
What a pity?

Calm after the storm

KK was in deep heat for the past 2 days after the storm. Maybe the heat is the culprit that set off the earthquake. ha ha. never blame the GOD. HE is only doing his job.
